landmark technological breakthrough has reshaped the global motor industry this month, as China officially launched the world’s first mass-produced high-performance axial flux motor, marking a major leap in the country’s high-efficiency electric drive technology and breaking the long-term technical monopoly held by European and Japanese manufacturers.
Different from traditional radial flux motors with a 200-year-old technical paradigm, the newly developed axial flux motor features a revolutionary structural design, ultra-high power density and excellent energy-saving performance. According to official test data, the new motor achieves a power density of 25.73 kilowatts per kilogram, exceeding the national performance target scheduled for 2040 by 43% and realizing the advanced index 14 years ahead of schedule. In addition, it reduces overall volume by 50% and weight by nearly half compared with conventional motors of the same power, while delivering doubled power output and significantly improved operational stability.
The innovative motor adopts independently developed high-performance core materials and magnet optimization technologies, eliminating the dependence on expensive rare earth resources to a certain extent. It not only cuts manufacturing and maintenance costs for enterprises but also meets the latest international ultra-high energy efficiency standards. Widely adaptable to new energy vehicles, industrial robots, intelligent manufacturing equipment, aerospace and high-end household appliances, the product has officially entered large-scale batch production in Zhejiang Lanxi industrial base, providing lightweight, high-efficiency and low-carbon power solutions for multiple industrial sectors.
The breakthrough coincides with China’s accelerated promotion of green and low-carbon transformation in the manufacturing industry. Guided by the national High-Quality Development Implementation Plan for Energy-Saving Equipment (2026–2028), the domestic motor industry is comprehensively promoting the phase-out of low-efficiency obsolete motors and popularizing IE4 and above high-efficiency motor equipment. Multiple provincial industrial policies have been issued to mandate the upgrading of industrial motor systems, driving the rapid expansion of the high-efficiency motor market, which is expected to exceed 185 billion yuan in 2026 with a steady annual growth rate of over 9%.
Industry analysts pointed out that motors are the core energy-consuming equipment of the manufacturing industry, accounting for more than 60% of industrial power consumption. The large-scale application of new axial flux motors will effectively reduce industrial energy consumption, help enterprises cut operating costs, and boost the intelligent and low-carbon upgrading of the entire industrial chain. Meanwhile, the independent core technology of the new motor has filled multiple global technical gaps, enhancing China’s core competitiveness in the global high-end electric drive market.
